Delivering performance at a good price. Chord Company Clearway (now ClearwayX) speaker cable has won WHAT HIFI? Best Speaker Cable award 2015, 2016 and 2017. It uses a clever combination of materials to produce a speaker cable with a performance level that usually costs a lot more!
The ClearwayX uses 14 AWG multi-strand oxygen-free copper conductors – big enough to bring control and definition to both bookshelf and floor standing loudspeakers. The insulation has been recently upgraded from FEP to XLPE which has comparable performance to PTFE. Choice of insulation has a profound effect on a speaker cable and contributes to its neutrality. The wrong choice of insulation can produce unwanted tonal colourations.
The conductors are arranged in a twisted pair configuration before a soft PVC internal jacket is applied, this helps to minimise mechanical noise and also spaces the twin contra-wound foil shields in relation to the conductors.
Shielding a speaker cable brings subtle nuances that make music come alive. ClearwayX can transform the performance of your system particularly when it comes to coherence and timing. It will let you further into your favourite music.
"I compared ClearwayX with 2-core mains flex, of the sort you can buy at DIY stores. It is typically sold

“The Clearway helps your system better stitch instruments together” "This Award is a kind of 30th birthday present for a company that has made this sort of sound its signature. It has been pipped marginally in this category in recent years, but the Clearway delivers so much that it's hard to look past it and find anything as good this year. Detail, space, frequency range - those things matter, and if the Clearway were lacking in those respects it wouldn't be given five starts. But what matters more is the knitting together and musicality, and that's where Chord has this right for the price. If you're investing your hard-earned in your hi-fi system, this is the kind of speaker cable it deserves." (Read More) Best Speaker Cable - What Hi-Fi? Awards - 2015/2016/2017 |
"Chord hasn’t created a speaker cable that’ll make your system sound its cleanest or most detailed, but an understanding of what makes music enjoyable means the positives far outweigh that. Often, they tend to say cleaner, amounts to better detail, space, frequency range; those things matter, and if the Clearway were lacking in those respects it wouldn’t be given five stars."(Read More) What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision - October 2015

Chords ChordOhmic silver-plated loudspeaker plugs are designed to bring both the electrical and sonic benefits of silver to speaker cables.
Silver-plating not only makes sense from an electrical point of view, but it can also give an audibly superior result during listening tests, when compared with gold plated connectors. Plugs will also benefit from a major clean, using a good contact cleaner or enhancer.
This cable is custom-made according to customers specific requirements as selected by the various drop-down options above. Future Shop’s highly experienced engineers professionally terminate Chord Cable’s using their superb silver-plated ChordOhmic plugs.
ChordOhmic is Chord’s new silver-plated termination option designed to bring both the electrical and sonic benefits of silver to your speaker cable. Future Shop terminates Chord speaker cables using Chord’s special HEXGUN. An airtight crimp is applied to the plug creating a secure and protected termination. This is a solder-free, airtight fusion between the cable and plug offering optimum signal transfer, excellent signal quality and perfect long-term performance. Furthermore, the banana plug itself is in contact with the binding post again at 360 degrees. The net effect of this is it maximises the signal transfer from the plug into your equipment and hence a superior performance. When a bare wire is used not all the conductors are in contact with the binding post and as a result, some loss occurs.
Future Shop also offer gold-plated banana and spade plugs which are soldered as an alternative to the ChordOhmic plugs.
From the dropdown menus' above, simply select the length of cable, the type of plugs required at the ‘Amplifier end’ and ‘Speaker end’ and click on the 'Add to Basket' button to add the item to your basket. Your cable will be dispatched as soon as it has been made by Future Shop's or the manufacturer’s engineers and has completed the specified burn-in process (if any), subject to Future Shop’s Terms & Conditions and stock availability.

Our cable burn-in service is a non-chargeable service and is provided by Future Shop at its discretion. We will attempt to fulfil all burn-in requests for the specified time periods. However, during extremely busy periods, we regret we may not be able to meet demand for all requests due to the limited connections available on the Nordost Vidar cable conditioning machines.
We are pleased to offer a free cable burn-in service for this cable when purchased through Future Shop. The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine combines three distinct functions all in one operation:
The VIDAR uses a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. Parts of the signal oscillate at ultra-low frequencies, while other parts are in ultra-high ranges which extend beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal bounces in a ping-ping ball-like fashion from one end of the cable to the other. During the burn-in process, ultra-low frequencies penetrate deep into the core of the cable. The ultra-high frequencies zip along the surface. This method of signal transmission is set up to beat harmonics, or heterodynes, between the two complex waveforms. In the digital domain, this would be referred to as aliasing products. These beat frequencies penetrate all layers of the cable.
The design of the circuitry also has a unique feature which drives electrons above the conductor into the dielectric (or insulation) area. The VIDAR not only sends ping pong signals along the cable, it also sends a similar signal from the centre core to the outer shield in the case of interconnect cables. This function neutralises the electrical charges discussed above.
So, what does that all mean to me?
The end result of conditioning cables with the Nordost VIDAR is improved sound staging, increased detail, and an overall more musical presentation.
